Newly diagnosed and confused

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi, I was just diagnosed for L.D’s and ADD by my University. I was just wondering…can these issues (LD’s and ADD) just start up in high school, after the age of 14? Because I was fien in elementary school it wasn’t until grade 8 when my problems with reading and paying attention started…can this be right? or was I diagnosed wrong? anyone else in the asme boat?

You need to have more testing done.

How did they explain to you what a central processing disorder is and why do they say you have it?

central auditory processing disoder is not a hearing problem but it does have to do with hearing. It’s when i tune out (without meanign to) when someone is talking to me…it’s being restless, having troubles in lectures taking notes, reading…that sort of thing. It does fit me to a T but I thought you had to have these tendencies in elementary school and I did not.

Hi Krista, yes LD problems can manifest themselves in later grades.
When you say things were fine in the lower grades; how fine were they? I’m doing research for my PhD with adults who have been diagnosed recently. Please contact me at [email protected]
Thanks

Hi :)
Yes I’m a university student…I’m in my 5th year…I got my B.A. last year and this year I’ll get my B.Ed. I got tested for LD this year…just on my own (no one told me to go or anything). I went and talked to the leraning centre peopel and they asked me a bunch of questions and things and then sent me to the psychologist for testing. It was a LOT of testing!

How about you?
~Krista
