Some numger from my neuro psych test or how it is to be smar

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Neuro psych tests have a lot of catagories and scores here are a few.
Verbal IQ 116 …….. 82 percentile
Performance IQ 85……..16th percentile
Verbal comprhension 129……….97th percentile
Working memory 80………..14th percentile
Processing speed 70…………. 3rd percentile

Abstract reasoning……………….99th percentile
Use of common sense and judgement in everyday situations…………98th percentile
Symbol search………….. 5th percentile
Digit symbol………………5th percentile
Block design………………26th percentile

This is rather personal information but I thought it may be helpful to give folks a clue what psychometric testing is all about.

In a big sense this is who I am and what I have become. This is a value judgement in the purest form. So talk about feeling like a number, that is what we are in many ways.

Here it is in a nut shell(Oh yes I am nuts) The patient”s indices show statistically significant impairment based on his current reading skills and his demographic information including age gender education and race. He shows significant impairment on the Verbal IQ, Performance IQ, Perceptual Organization Index, and the Processing Speed Index. Most of his scores are at cumlative 1st percentile. This means thatonly one percent of the standardization sample with his demographic characteristics and current reading score would score this low on these measures.

I hope this is of some value.

You know what? IQ total scores should be thrown out when testing dyslexic people. They are way to scattered to get any type of acurate number.

You can see the low number throws the high number. Now, for us boring people who are middle of the road types perhaps the numbers are more accurate.

I don’t beleive in the IQ deal, I do believe some testing can help determine what methods might help us improve.

They do prorate the scores for dyslexics and TBIs but maybe not all the time.

This was a small sample of the numbers compiled. Well I have the numbers now who can interpret them in a meaningful way and apply them to the everyday tasks of the real world.

A doctor looks in your throat and diagnosis bad tonsils and through anti-biotics or surgery he fixes the problem.
It doesn’t work that way with brain things so as impressive as the test is to me it is not all that useful.

I am so tired of MD’s, psychologists, etc. looking at only standardized tests. Look at function, strenghts and abilites.

Amen RS!

I was looking at one of my voc rehab reports and the idiot psychologist referred to one of my scores as two standard deviations below the mean. Yup, real helpful language. The neuropsychologist I saw for a private evaluation wasn’t much better but at least he was a nice idiot to compared to this guy. Funny, I am not supposed to be able to read body language as an NLDer but I knew he was trouble as soon as I walked into his office.

PT,

A lot of those A-holes are so out of touch.

If you are going to voc rehab I would suggest you have a big jar of Vaseline.

A lot of these guys have the personality of a turd and the morals of a politician.

Has anyone seen an occupational therapist. My sister saw a private OT who was very helpful. Her therapist emphasized practicle strategies for success at work and and included her in establishing goals and objectives that she wanted to work on. Seemed very functional and client centered to me.
