Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi, I have a daughter who is almost 10 yrs old she has a
speech problem she is in the 4th grade. The problem is no one wants to play with her and she is all ready don’t want to go to
school. I’m so worry I cry almost daily. All I want is someone to accept her . All the kids said she talks funny.I think its going to get worse the older she gets and the higher the grade she goes. Any advice?

I’d talk to the teacher about your daughter’s feelings about school. A caring teacher would want to offer her extra support.

Is there a school psychologist or an adjustment/ guidance counselor in the school? In our school we offer social groups for kids that are having a hard time making friends. Ask about these resources at your school. Also encourage her to follow her interests and hobbies ourtside of school. For instance, she could get involved in a sport, which would require less reliance on language skills. Hope things get better for her.

Mamm:

Did you try your local Learning Disabilities organization ? They may have some social groups for LD kids to socialize with people like your daughter. This is a good reason people like LD/ADD need their own organizations to find social lives in. Everyone needs acceptance from someone.
