free beginners composition competiton

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

The Rose Resources website is hosting a ‘beginners composition competition’ aimed at students with practical instrumental experience, limited theoretical background and little or no experience in musical composition. The idea of the competition is to promote links between the study of theory and the art of composition and to encourage composition of music. There are three categories for entry based around early AMEB grades with multiple entry possible as students grow in skill and confidence. There is no entry fee or age restrictions. Adjudication is by Mrs Audrey Williams AmusA LmusA, a private instrumental and theory teacher of over a decade and secondary school music teacher for previous decades. Competiton information can be found at http://www.fortunecity.co.uk/business/helphelp/707/competition.htmHints on melody writing can be found at http://www.fortunecity.co.uk/business/helphelp/707/melody.htmA more basic theory lesson is at http://www.fortunecity.co.uk/business/helphelp/707/preliminary.htm/Entry is by email midi and notation file attachment with link to free downloadable notation software at the site. Ideas for prizes for category winners can also be submitted by email.Regards Rosie Williams
