UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS at URBANA-CHAMPAIGNLEARNING DISABILITIES SPECIALISTThe Division of Rehabilitation-Education Services (DRES) within the College of Applied Life Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is accepting applications and nominations for the position of Learning Disabilities Specialist. The position is a full-time, 12 month, academic professional position.The Learning Disabilities Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of support services for UIUC students with learning disabilities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: meeting with parents and prospective students prior to enrollment at UIUC; answering inquiries concerning support services for students with learning disabilities; conducting an individual in-take meeting with enrolled UIUC students; designing and writing DRES Request for Accommodation letters; serving as liaison between students and faculty concerning accommodation adjustments; aiding students in the development of alternative learning strategies; presenting prepared information about learning disabilities as requested; working cooperatively with other DRES service staff to develop and maintain effective service policies and procedures; and, participating in teaching and applied disability-related research.Qualifications: A master’s degree in an area related to services for students with learning disabilities (for example, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, special education, educational administration, etc.) is required; professional experience in education of students with learning disabilities at the secondary or post-secondary level and/or a state educational certification which includes qualifications for learning disabilities, and knowledge of current laws applying to post- secondary services for students with disabilities are strongly preferred.Proposed starting date: As soon as possible.
