Flint Hill School, an independent day school in Oakton, Virginia, 15 miles outside of Washington, D.C., has several openings for a learning disabilities specialist. Flint Hill School is a college preparatory school, Jr.Kindergarten to Grade 12. About 12-15% of our student population has learning disabilities and/or ADD. We staff each division, Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, with learning specialists to support the students and the teachers. We collaborate and co-teach in the classrooms with teachers as well as pull students out for individual attention. At the Lower School level, we focus on prevention of reading disabilities through early intervention starting in Kindergarten. Remediation of basic skill deficiencies is the overall focus in Lower School. In Middle and Upper Schools, we focus on compensatory strategies with the students, demystification of, and accommodations for their learning disabilities. All of our student go on to college.
