ADD mom struggling with ADHD child

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am an attention deficit disorder mother with one, possibly two, ADHD children. I struggle with patience in dealing with my children. I have come to learn that my ADD makes it very difficult for me to tolerate distractions. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? I am tired of snapping and yelling at my sweet children.

Are you getting treatment for yourself? Are you working with a therapist? These are things that can help you learn different ways of dealing with distraction issues. My sister definitely benefits from her treatment. Without it she gets very frustrated when she is interrupted.

Yes, I have had treatment for many years, about to do the fanily therapy thing. My H was diagnosed at 36, so essentially our entire family has it. I am trying very hard to cope and learn new organizational skills in addition to trying to structure myself and family. I do hope that it will get better the more structured I (we) get!!!! Thank you for your reply.
