Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Okay I just had my youngest son retested for an L.D. I heard of ADD and ADHD. IS ADHD combined both of these catorgories mixed together or what?

I believe that term ADHD is now used to cover attention issues with or without hyperactivity.

Here is an informative site that explains the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for ADHD. It includes sub-categories for hyperactivity and inattentiveness, either of which alone can be pervasive enough to make the ADHD diagnosis, or a child might have both. The tendency toward implusiveness is also considered in the criteria.
