FREE INTERNET COURSE OFFERS TOOLS FOR SUCCESSFUL ADVOCACY
Advocacy in Special Education for parents of children with special needs
July 1, 2004 – Andrea Sherwin Ripp, Ed.M., MS, OTR/L, has created a FREE, entirely online course for parents of children with special needs. The course, Advocacy in Special Education, gives parents the tools for successful advocacy. The course includes two surveys, three readings, self-study questions, and one short-answer assignment. It will be available through fall 2004.
Advocacy in Special Education has information on special education documentation, legal rights, practical strategies for obtaining supports and services, and a list with nearly 400 references to nationwide parent support networks and special education resources. Parents who complete the course will receive a course certificate, the extensive resource list, and will be eligible for a drawing for one of five $25 Amazon.com gift certificates.
This course is an approved study that is part of my doctoral research in special education at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. All responses are confidential, there are no obligations, and individuals may withdraw at any time.
