affects of Adhd

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My 5 yr. old niece has been diagnosed with adhd and has started having siezures. The doctors haven’t given her mom any info. I am trying to figure out if there is a link from the two of them. If there is anyone with info please let me know.

Did your niece start having seizures after taking ADHD medication? Stimulants can potentially lower the seizure threshhold in susceptible persons, although it is quite rare. Another possibility to consider is whether the attentional problems are part of the seizure disorder. It could be the case that what looks like inattention is actually absence seizures. If I were her parent, I would insist on an MRI and EEG.

That must be scary for you. I don’t know much about seizures but I can’t resist bringing up the earlier threads on magnesium as I was only just reading about it and it is supposed to help with seizures. How is her diet? Is it strange that she has only just started having them at 5?
All the best with working it out.
