auditory trainer for capd

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My ten year old son wears a trainer in class. His is a phonic ear that he has had for two years. He needs another one but the teachers are trying to tell me that they don’t make him use it alot because thet do not want him to feel different. I feelhould use it and he should have one that is newer and more comfortable as well as less noticable( similar to a cellphone and headpiece). Please help. Does anyone have information or knowledge about these? Our Iep is in May and I need to be prepared.

Ask for an ear level trainer…Many kids get those, they look like big hearing aides but they aren’t as noticeable as they don’t have headphones or earbuds.
I use an easy listener in my college classes and it has earbuds. I don’t care about appearances..I am into funtion…but I am an adult. My daughter has an ear level one, she got this one in 3rd grade becuase she was tired of the old one with the belt etc..

Is an ear level trainer two pieces or one? He has a phonic ear now and it is two pieces. They told me they will try ear buds with it. what Do you think?

Earbuds are sony walkman earbuds, they would replace the old-fashioned headphones. Earbuds go into your ears, the wires are attached to the phonic ear receiver. It is still a wired system but not as obvious as “Headphones” that fit over your head. The earbuds attached to your ears and the wires hang down to the reciever. I like it, I didn’t like the headphones that came with my easylistener. I bought the sony earbuds myself. My daughter has a wireless setup that is earlevel. Which is like a hearing aide/FM assistive listening device. I am able to tape record my lectures by placing the left earbud in my ear, my right ear has a hearing aide and the other right earbud is placed on my tape recorder so that I get crystal clear recordings of my lectures. I learn auditorially so this has been a lifesaver.
