OK, so I read a few articles and am unable to buy one of those expensive programs like Balametrics. I did buy a balance board on one of the OT websites. It has a ball maze on it, and you have to try to get the balls into the center of the maze-I thought the kids would like that. It can’t hurt, right??
How long should we be doing this as an activity? I would think that 10 minutes would be a good amount of time, but I don’t know how long he’ll stay on it.
I think you’ll find support for short and often over long and sometimes. I’d rather my child do 5 minutes daily than 1/2 hour once a week. make the goals obtainable and don’t raise the bar too fast. When we did VT exercises we ended at 3 minutes per exercise and twice through the set both morning and afternoon. It was easy to say -“only another minute” and easier for her to hang in there for short periods. By far the more important thing was establihing the expectation and the routine- this is what we do each day.
Of course you could try the old reverse psychology and tell him he’s only allowed 5 minutes a day!
