Okay, but what about the kid who likes reading a computer manual?

Usually these lists are geared towards kids who are perfectly capable of reading but who are bored with what they’re offered, or it’s not relevant to them. There are often a lot of “cool books for boys” on those lists.
Only problem for me was, most of them were just more enticing things that my students couldn’t read ;( I don’t know that these reluctant readers aren’t really an imaginary species — that the listmakers assume skills that aren’t there — or not.
One thing I do when I find a book (and I do love those lists for that) that will likely catch my reader’s interest, I’ll read it with ‘em, trading off paragraphs or pages, and turning over chunks of it to them when we’re done to read on their own.

I know what you mean about “lists”, but what I found attractive about this book was that it contains about 3 paragraphs from each book so you can have the child read it to get an idea if they are capable of handling the vocabulary.
Wow, just what I was looking for this summer. THANKS!
