Several years ago when the public schools were being worse than not helpful I pulled my child out from 8 to 10:30 and homeschooled him. They did not like it and threatened me with all sorts of things. When I asked for the policy on chronic tardiness (and how it added up to truancy), they went all the way to the top and found none. So they let me be.
I think it depends on how the school looks at it. They knew they weren’t teaching my son and were afraid that they would be financially liable for me being able to. The principal, of the record, told me as much. The prinicpal also knew the resource teacher was incompetent and she had let me pull him out. But then the district people got wind of it and she had to act tough.
I do know other cases where parents have pulled kids out early without difficulty so it just depends.
