OK all you SPED experts out there… Can a slow learner with ADD- not a kid with LD- get resource room help in order to stay in a mainstream class? I’ve tested a fifth grader- her IQ and adaptive skills are in the Borderline/Low Average range. She has ADD, inattentive type. There are a lot of neurological soft signs, but brain scans are OK. She learns everything by rote memory- she has a very hard time using reasoning skills- and she works really hard. She’s been getting by with resource room and tutoring. She would fall apart without the help. Mom wants her to remain in parachial school with resource room supports until she can enter a vocational high school. The school district wants to place her in a self- contained class. Any suggestions are appreciated…
