Carers Experiences

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi,

I am an MSc Student at the University of Leeds conducting research looking at the positive and negative impact of long term caring of children with Learning Disabilities. I have worked in the field of learning disabilities for a number of years and it is an area that I am very interested in. Much research has been conducted looking at new parents and how they adapt to the caring role as well as with young children however there is a dearth of evidence looking at the experiences of long term carers, both negative and positive. I would really appreciate as many people as possible completing the attached questionnaire; it should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and is about your experiences of caring for an adult with learning disabilities (older than 21). I would be grateful if people could forward this on to as many parents as they know who might be willing to complete this as there is a need for research in this area. Alternatively if anybody needs a paper copy then I would be happy to provide one on request. All information that is provided will be anonymous and your confidentiality will be maintained. I am going to post an executive summary of my findings on the forum once the research has been completed for anybody who is interested.
