cheating in the classroom

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My daughter works very hard in each class. She does not have a choice. The material does not come easy to her. She studies for hours to memorize information. She always asked for assistance when she does not understand the directions then tries to figure out the assignment without the help of an aide or reg. teacher. The inclusion aide is wonderful and makes sure she comprehends and is mastering all areas.

For the past two weeks some kids are trying to copy all her papers. She politely moves her paper away.Today she was curious and asked three of them why? They said you call the aide over and we know that your paper is right after she looks it over. She told them to call the aide over and get the same help. They said what …look like we do not know. We rather copy from you. This must be very common in inclusion classrooms as the kids get older.

Are they having a daily brain bubble? Kids will try to get away with lots of stuff but it is up to adults to lead them back to honest ways…

I agree with Susan. Have a talk with the teacher. My son last year said there was a lot of cheating going on in science. He had a classmate ask him if he was smart in science so they could sit next to him. Another classmate said to him,
“you don’t cheat, what’s wrong with you.” My son also said that the teacher left the class often during tests. I emailed the teacher my concern but left out the part about her leaving the classroom. She responded copying the v-p. It was the best I could do. We live in a school district where parents expect their children to do well. Given the chance the kids cheated.
