Children, Medications and Vitamins/Nutrition

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am not a doctor/nutritionist. This information is from my own personal experiences.

Always check with your doctor before adding supplements to medication.
Some supplements will interact with medication, so caution is needed.

That said…

I wonder how many parents of children prescribed medication are also told of the need to make sure your child is taking a good multi vitamin? When I was prescribed Adderall, I was told to take a number of different vitamins, a good multi vitamin and follow a certain diet. It is amazing the difference I feel if I miss a day or two of the supplements.

I have recently talked to several friends whose children take medications. They spoke with their doctors and were told that yes, they should give their kids certain things in addition to just the medications. They claim to see a remarkable difference.

Stimulants and other meds deplete a body of certain nutrients. Diet alone does not usually replenish that which is lost…..

A website that has been informative (and the clinic I went to) is:

http://amenclinics.com/bp/articles.php?articleID=10

If you can’t view it with that address, you can go to http://amenclinics.com, and follow the links to the BrainPlace and then to the supplements section.

Take care.
