Yes this does look useful. How do I go about being able to use it to proofread? Is this a program I can purchase? I saw the download, but is that for a text to speech program. I already use one, will this conflict? I guess I see the potential for the program, but I am not sure how to access it. Please explain. Thanks.

So, I re read your post and see that it is FREE and On-line. So, my son types a paper and the standard microsoft spell check is not able to understand his errors. Then what? Does he cut and paste on your site?

Your son may either:

- write the text in the MS-Word, copy it to Ghotit
window, correct, press on Edit button and copy back;

- write the text directly in Ghotit window, which has background colors customization, font size adaptation, etc and copy it to MS-Word.

Please, read HOW-TO-USE instructions for better performance and assistance.

If you have Internet Explorer -7 browser, you can download and install Ghotit Text-To-Speech, which is due only for the Ghotit web-site spelling window. It is not supposed to conflict with anothing else, since it’s only goal is to make Ghotit web-site speller talking to you.

You can adjust the Ghotit web-site talking voice as explained in the HOW-TO-USE.

Hey thanks. It worked. He typed in a sentence and you program highlighted the mispelled words. Then he right-clicked to find the correct spelling. Yeah!

Just FYI about our process and maybe others in a similar situation. My son’s disability has a motor component to it that makes typing slow going, so he avoids it whenever possible. He uses speech recognition software and that spells perfectly although it sometimes misreads what he said. Still I think that knowing that when he makes the effort to type he can check the spelling will help him feel more like putting in the effort. Right now he rarely emails because he doesn’t feel good about his spelling.

I appreciate your work to provide solutions for those with disabilities. I will help my son become more accustomed to your program. I am also a special ed teacher and will show others you website. There is more and more technology out there to help people, but it is a time consuming project to learn the skills yourself and then teach a student. It’s funny (not) that I work all day with kids with learning disabilities in a large school district with a big assistive tech dept, but in all my years (and they are many) I rarely find teachers or students who make full use of the technology available. I think the Learning disabled community is very slow to adopt technology, so I am glad for your work.

I did just register and downloaded the text to speech. I tried it out and it worked well. I will spend more time learning to use it and then I will get my son to practice. It’s funny in a way, but my son is a hard sell. He did agree to try it some more and then possibly download it to his computer. Despite his disability he has been quite successful. He is in his third year of college, attending a good 4 year private college. I just see how much more he could use technology and I usually feel like I am alone out here pushing him and my students and colleagues to use it too. I will keep you posted about how it is going and I encourage other parents to get more assistive technolgy into their child’s life.

Some people find useful to open in one tab of a browser a chat or e-mail, and in a another tab - Ghotit dyslexia writer.
Thus, they correct in Ghotit and paste corrections to chat or e-mail.
