ebay to open special needs category

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Got this from a good friend in the email this morning…

Ebay will open a Special Needs category. It will take a few day but tell everyone you know that would benefit - parents, teachers, therapists, school purchasing depts, hospitals, etc.

The category will be Medical subcategory Special Needs. It should be a good place to unload items your child has outgrown, or look for those things which you will be needing. Hopefully others will list things with the same thought in mind so we can all get what we need at home and at school. Forward this to anyone you know that would use this!

About two years ago I picked up a free-lance writing gig from an interesting site called www.halftheplanet.com — basically a site with articles & ads aimed at the ‘half the planet’ who either have a disability or are closely invovled with someone who does. I thought it made sense to include the LD market — there are a fair number of products, educational and otherwise. I did notice, though, that none of the products or resources I was familiar with were represented on that site.
A personnel change and, gee, they were no longer interested in the LD market. It jsut wasn’t a “real disability,” I suppose. It will be interesting to see what shows up at Ebay, which may be in better touch with the general (at least wired) populace.
