First day at private LD school - big success!

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Today my son started at a private LD school that specializes in language based learning disabilities. (BTW,they do use the word dyslexia when talking with the kids…)

DS hopped into the car after school and said ” I love my school - finally some teachers that know something about dyslexia!”

I will certainly let you all know as the year progresses, but he was so much more talkative about what happened in his day it was amazing.

Karen,

I am glad all looks good, especially since this decision required major changes in all of your lives. I think it is hard to underestimate the effect that being “normal” will have on him.

That is awesome news!!!!!

A relaxed happy child, what a concept? It is amazing that the government schools (my friends nickname for public institutions) don’t see this as an important goal to improve learning.

Who me, bitter? LOL

Great, Karen! Please do let us know how the year goes!

Janis (who really believes that least restrictive environment means a place where the child is taught with the methods he needs by trained teachers who accept and understand him, and yes, that can mean a private LD school. Inclusion is not least restrictive or most appropriate for very many kids, IMO)
