As suggest by those who answered my earlier post, I contacted a local adversey agency. She took my application over the phone, and said she would get back to me by the mid of next week to see if my daughter meets with the guidelines to have someone assigned. In the mean time the school has set an iep hearing for this Friday, due to my complaints last week. I am getting a lot of pressure from my ex and his family to pull her and home school her until I could get in another school district. This worries me because for the most part my daughter has nothing to do with these people seeing them over holidays even though they live only twenty miles away. This is their descion not mine. But I feel they are pushing for this when they no nothing about what is going on. I have tried in the past to get him and his family more into issues involving her education, and have now invited him to go to Fridays meeting. He says he is willing to go but will bring up homeschooling while we are there. My question is would it be better to find out if an advacy will be assigned before we go to far with the homeschooling issue?
what kind of agency is this? Your daughter has to qualify for advocacy help? hmm, never heard of such a thing.?
You have the leagl right to a ten day notice prior to an IEP,AND a mutually agreed upon time . If next friday is not good let them know in writing, give them alternative dates,or let them know you are waiting to find out when a support person from an advocacy group can come with you . Make sure they understand you want to be there, but it must be at another time.
If your ex wants to bring up homeschooling,I guess there is no way of stopping him, don’t worry too terribly much,he’ll sound like the uninformed parent that he is.
