Grandparents

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Is there anything that grandparents can do to help a family with LD children. What are some good ways that grandparents can take stress away?
What do you do when grandparents tell you how to raise your child like in the old days when ‘there was no such thing as LD or ADHD?’

You could share some recent research on ADD/ADHD with them if they are open to that.

Above all, remember that this is your child and you need to do what you feel is best for him or her.

I always found my in-laws to be a hinderance with how I want to parent my child with LD. Just as you stated with the old fashioned ways, nothing exists. It’s all in my head and my son needs to be disciplined.

I guess it depends on the generation and age of the grandparents to be able to support you in your parenting a child with LD. Good luck.
