GREAT RESULTS AT LAST

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

This is a message to anyone that has read my e-mails about my 9 year old daughter Amy (she has dyslexia and dyscalculia). I know things are different for the people who live in the USA but in England it is quite different you seem to have to fight a bit more for help.. I have been fighting for help with Amy since she was in Year 2 (she is now coming up to be in Year 5!!). I have got her help within school (3 x 20 minutes sessions - with 5 other children) and provided private lessons in Literacy for 1 x 1 hour sessions per week. But as usual no help with Maths…. I went into school with my husband to re-assess the situation and she will be getting some help with her Maths next September….. Which made us happy as there was a new scheme coming out which would suite Amy. That’s not all!!!! We came home within a couple of weeks we had Amy’s school report - was this the same child???/ Great results she had worked so hard this year……. She seems to be much more confident and her social skills have improved within a new group of friends at long last…… Maths she had worked very well and the teacher didn’t have enough room to put her remarks in the report so we had a lovely meeting with…… We are now due to fly out to Florida this Saturday (21st July) with our 5 year old as well and I believe I feel so relieved this year and so relaxed about it….. instead of being stressed out about a bad report yet again…… I believe the help with literacy was mostly our help and her tutors as well so the school cannot take the credit from the literacy…. but having such a nice/lovely teacher as Mrs Reddington this year has been very good for her……. It takes time and patience to get the right results lets hope that Amy continues it in Year 5 and then in Year 6 she will be leaving her Junior School onto Secondary School and we will have to start again……. Thanks everyone for listening….
