has anyone tried EEG?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

We are looking into new Doctors for our son. I had an interview with a Doc today who suggest a combination of medicine and EEG treatments eventually weening off meds. He also said that it would be essential for My husband and I to take a parenting course for parents raising ADHD kids and for our son to become envloved with similar courses … he even has a course for the teacher. He seems to have a balance of what we are looking for… eduacation … therepy ..and eventually drug free future. To good to be true? Any advice would be great. Thanks Jen

Conventional EEGs are historically given to help rule out “inattention” as being due to epilepsy rather than ADHD. For decades it’s been known that some of the medicines used to treat the symptoms of ADHD can slightly change the EEG tracings, that is, a patient with ADHD with a normal EEG when using an ADHD medicine which is effective for her/him will find that the EEG tracings are slightly different due to the positive, temporary impact of the ADHD medicine on the electrical activity of the brain which temporarily improves the ability to focus and pay attention.
