Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son will be a sophmore this coming fall and I a interested in hiring an LD teacher to help him with his Dyslexia half a day 5 days a week. This may be a home school situation or possibly an augment to regular schooling. We live in Delafield WI outside Milwaukee. Anyone know of any resources? TEachers that might be interested, Lists of teachers for the area? Any help is appreciated.

Hello Jeff:

I would look up the either the Wisconsin Learning Disabilities Association or the Dyslexia Association or Orton/Gillingham Dyslexia Association in your area. After contacting these associations you can see if they have a list of teachers that can tutor LD/dyslexic students.

Have you also considered technology that could be helpful in helping your son with his reading. There are a number of programs that work on computers to help to read to/with a student. I recommend looking at the following websites:
www.nextup.com
www.Kurzweiledu.com
www.readingmadeeasy.com

You might like to look at the following book which is available both in paperback and audio format (CD) from Amazon.com. Sally E. Shaywitz, Overcoming Dyslexia: A New and Complete Science-Based Program for Reading Problems at Any Level. This book covers the topics of dyslexia, reading, studying, IEP help and technology assistance.
