I don’t live in Miami but am close to it. I don’t really know the Miami public schools well, but have one friend whose kids attend. My impression is it takes a lot of negotiating to have a successful experience. That may be difficult coming in.

My experience in a different county is that there isn’t adequate staffing to serve LD kids.

There are a number of LD schools and one, which I can’t recall at the moment, which I have heard good things about. An advocate I hired for my son recommended it for him, but it wasn’t practical from where we live.

One additional fact is that FL has something called a McKay scholarship that can be used to pay for a private school for a classified child. The only catch is he would have to attend public school for a year to qualify for it.

I don’t live in Miami either, but live in Broward. If Beth is thinking of the same school I am, in Broward County, it is Lighthouse Point Academy. It is expensive, but I’ve heard good things about it. It is the the northeastern section of the county, so quite far from Miami, however.

Good luck!
