HELP PLEASE......tax write off question

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I know that I’ve read that you can deduct tuition for a private school and tutoring for a child with a learning disibility on your taxes. I can’t find where I read it. Could someone please help me? If possible I need the tax law # or whatever it’s called. Thanks in advance for any help that yo might be able to offer.

Scroll down and look for a post by Dad regarding tax writeoffs. My impression is that they may qualify as medical expenses. This requires diagnosis from physician and enough medical expenses to meet the required imedical expense/income ratio. Frankly, the only time we qualified for this deduction was when we were both in graduate school, paid for our own insurance, and had a baby….so it may sound better than it is in practice.

check the schwab learning website. It outlines the IRS qualifier - it does come under medical expense and we were able to use it for our son’s tuition at the private ld school and separate reading tutoring.
