Re: Help, teenage daughter with L.D. pregnant...
Well I have LD I’m now 30 but I had my first son at age 17. I quit High School back then it was too hard to have everyone know I was LD. ( in the dumb class ) . My son is now 13 and he has my brains just no LD he is in Jr. high school and get all A’s and B’s. I have learn on my own how to do thing I need to do even with my LD. At age 25 I said I was going to get my GED but the classes just are not for me so it took four months but I learned by myself. I got my GED on the first try and I didn’t tell them I had LD. I also have a eight year old son we just found out he has LD. I did not wait for the school we had him tested and I met with them the May 22. So I don’t know if this helped or not.

Re: Help, teenage daughter with L.D. pregnant...
It depends on the LD. If she is at a level where she would be considered as incapable of making decisions for herself, but the boy is not, then the boy can be prosecuted for rape. If it is the other way around, then SHE can be prosecuted for rape. If they are both incapable, then they should have had more supervision than it appears they had, and you have an action on her behalf against the people who were supposed to be doing the supervising. You can consult with your county’s District Attorney office if any of these situations is correct.
However, you said special needs “college course”, so I will assume both of these individuals are capable of making decisions, and the issue then is NOT that they are LD, but just the issue facing any parent in your position, which is an unplanned teen pregnancy.
1. Your daughter needs prenatal medical attention. She can receive it thru most states’ prenatal programs if she does not have medical insurance. Call your county or state health department for information on that.
2. The boy, and/or his parents until he is 18, should be informed that the boy will have to pay child support to support his child. When the baby is born, your daughter should name this boy as the father on the birth certificate, and then file for the support.
3. If your daughter is not yet ready for the responsibilities of raising a child, you can consider discussing with her, adopting out the child when it is born. This decision should also include a discussion with the boy who is the father, and/or his parents because he is not yet age 18.
There are several organizations that provide assistance to unwed teen mothers with unplanned pregnancies. You can look in your phone book for more information.
I hope this is helpful to you.

You have gotten some very practical advice from other people. Just remember that what your daughter needs most now is your love and support, even though your heart is breaking. She needs to know that even though she is not following the course for her life that you had hoped she would, you will still love her unconditionally, because she is your daughter. Its not an esay thing to do, but with your help and the practical advice you have received on this board and I’m sure in other places, she can find a creative and productive path to follow. Good luck.

Many of the parents who post to this board speak to school problems and are speaking to children younger than your daughter. I’m sure every parent on this board or any other though would care about the challenging situation you’re facing even if they wouldn’t know what to advise.
I sincerely hope you find the good help you’re seeking.
