Ideas on high protein diet

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have been trying to get my son the carb addict to eat more protein. He eats bacon and eggs for breakfast most mornings now and he says it helps. I know when I eat more protein I have more energy. Carbs make me sleepy.

So, I can’t give him bacon and eggs for every meal. Has anyone found a high protein shake that kids like or something else that adds protein to the diet?

I carry balance bars with me, for me and my son. We both get low blood sugar if we don’t eat frequently. With him its like jekyl and hyde - scary. I’d like to know about hi-protein portable snacks (bars for example) that are formulated for children…

Check out the diet shakes (Slim-Fast, etc.) My kid lived on Carnation Instant Breakfast with peanut butter and egg-substitute blended in.

There are lots of high-protein shakes and and protein bars. Your best bet may be to visit a health food store (or the dietary section of a regular supermarket or drug store) and buy a variety of bars and any small packages of protein shakes or protein powder that could be added to food/drink.

In addition to eggs and bacon in the mornings, I also like to give my kids yogurt and plain oatmeal with honey (although that’s full of carbs!) for variety. What I do is try to balance and mix meals so there’s always some protein and fewer carbs.

Another thing, you could probably find some good high protein recipes on the web.
