We have an IEP meeting for our dyslexic entering 1st grader on April 29. Can anyone supply a sample IEP to assist in the area of reading?? Any other suggestions??
Re: IEP for 1st grader!!!
Suggestion - I would talk to a first grade teacher or if you are requesting have an invitation sent to them also. The first grade teacher would have the best information for what would be helpful in their classroom. Also, they would have suggestions for accomodations not only in the classroom, but for state and district assesments.
IEP goals should be based upon the assessment data. Naturally this should include data re. the processing deficit(s) and the academic achievement levels, including informal data collected from curriculum-based measurements and observation.
There really is not any “pat” IEP that could be suggested for a child at any age or grade level. These days, with really explicit teaching going in in K and 1, I get students who have decoding skills, but who cannot quickly and accurately apply them to identifying words. Then, I get those who need to learn the phonics. My approach is tailored to the needs of the particular child in each case.
