iep/eligibility ?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have a few questions, and don’t have the time today to search them down, so thought maybe you guys could help me out.

My son is due for his 1st eligibility hearing no later than Feb 13, his school always has them on Wendsdays. As of today I have had no notificiation as to when this meeting is scheduled. I asked the school administratior in charge today if she knew, and her response was “oh, it’ll probably be next week, you’ll get a letter.” Well next week is only 5 business days away. Aren’t there guidelines/timeframes for notifications? After the eligibility meeting how long do they have to implement some type of program.

I am getting very frustrated by this long drawn out process. He needs help now!! We have an appt. tomorrow with a tutoring program specializing in dyslexic kids, but it is very expensive and would like to have some idea what the school is going to provide before we go down that road

thanks for any feedback

Stacy,
Did you recive the results of the testing that was done to decide if he needs special services? You are suppose to receive this 10 days prior to the eligibility meeting, it is the law. The also do have to give you prior written notice of when the meeting will be, who will be in attendance and the reason for the meeting. Check out Wrightslaw.com I Highly recommend his books.
Hope this helps.
