Hi My daughter was tested a has a reading disablilty and we’ve done the IEP but being new I wasn’t sure what I could ask for so can we request and make the school supply tutoring @ their expense? I cannot afford it but would let some bills go if needed if they aren’t responsible. another question are you suppose to only have IEP meeting a school year? They told me it would be fall before we’d have another meeting. I want to know what to expect for 5th grade before we go. She’s being kept in the regular classroom with the exeception of this week for proficiency testing where she will be read to. Or if she falls below an 70% in classes Any info is greatly appreciated! : greatly appreciated! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!You can request (and do so in writing and fax a copy and keep receipt or send certified)and IEP meeting any time you feel it is necessary. The IEP is supposed to be “a fluid document” (it should be changed as the IEP team feels is necessary-BTW the IEP team includes the student”s parents/guardians). You can ask for anything you think is appropriate, but that does not mean you will get it. Rarely in my experience with sped have I seen a student get 1:1 tutoring, however, it can be done, because we accomplished this feat for our son (it did take a year of failure with resource center- many parents would not wait a year). I showed what I consider regression on their end of year standardized tests in a subject, then there was no arguement, they did do it, and it was wonderful.
