Info. Request: Feuerstein's IE pgm. and S. Truch's Mathr

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi
A few years back, in posting here, Nancy Barnes suggested Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment Pgm. for my son. I will post a request to hear from her on the Teaching LD panel, but has any other parent used this pgm. and if so, how? Can a parent buy the book and implement, or is training needed? (We are a long way from a training center, according to info. on www.icelp.org, which did not answer all of my questions.)

How does this pgm. compare to PACE, apart from its being obviously more strategy based? (My son’s issues are with processing speed, nonverbal low average ability with very low coding—academic troubles are in math; he is mainstreamed for language.)

Also, in the “next steps” category, I am looking at Dr. Stephen Truch’s Calgary, AB, Discover Math summer program. (He has a reading pgm.—a synthesis of PG and elements of LMB I think—his math pgm. is, I think, influenced by LMB’s On Cloud Nine. Is anyone familiar with Discover Math?

We are currently doing Interactive Metronome. Our audiologist has also suggested PACE in the past and will reassess in December. PACE will come before Discover Math, if needed, but I am wondering about whether the Feuerstein pgm. would be a cheaper substitute (though it does not appear to help with processing speed).

Thanks.
