I just read your letter to Dr. Silver. Part of what you are describing sounds like Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) and expressive language problems. I’m no doctor, but I am a parent of a child who has these problems.
No one in the public schools could help me…I basically figured out there was a problem and found people to help. That was five years ago. My child started sentences(thoughts) in the middle often times. She made up words for certain things. She tended to stay away from large groups that were noisy. Many times she preferred to work by herself. She couldn’t always pick up everything someone was telling her. Instructions in school, given verbally, were a problem. She tended to miss some of the words and therefore couldn’t do the work. She had trouble asking questions when she didn’t understand something, because she couldn’t put into words what she needed to know. She is a very bright child. I got her ears tested at an audiology dept. in a hospital. Later, a speech pathologist and audiologist diagnosed the expressive language problem.
You might want to read about these disorders and see if it’s something that sounds possible.
