Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all having a great summer. I am going crazy with all this summer time intervention. I posted a few weeks ago very discouraged b/c my son was so frustrated in interactive metronome.
Well, we are all very happy this week. I cannot recommend this therapy highly enough for those of you who have dyspraxic/poorly coordinated children. He is on about session 25 or so. He is down to between 17 and 20 milliseconds for his 2000 repititions and has even had the odd 14 for 200 repititions. We are going on for another week or so before we head back to Asia.
Here are some changes:
He can propell himself on a swing (never could get the push/pull rhythm before);
He can juggle with 2 balls (couldn’t throw and catch 1 tennis ball before);
He hasn’t bumped into furniture in days;
He can play catch with a superball;
My Favorite—he has had an incredible change in temporal understanding (prior to this he couldn’t tell if 10 minutes or 1 hour had passed-now he is aware of time);
He would avoid talking on the phone—now he is phoning his cousin in Houston;
We are staying in a new and unfamiliar neighborhood and he knew where Staples was located!!
He is far more tolerant of his little sister;
He is making his bed;
I asked him what number came before a million and he said, instantly, “nine hundred ninety nine thousand, nine hundred ninety-nine”
I could go on …. and these things may not seem like much, but they are great for us!
I also spent the weekend in Colorado Springs where I trained in PACE. Very intense program. I will let you know how that goes, but I don’t plan on putting him through it for a month or two or three. He has worked very hard and deserves a break. I met some great people at the PACE seminar. One woman is opening a school in Toronto where FastFwd, IM, Listening Therapy, Pace, and Arrowsmith are part of the curriculum.
Oh–and as my stepdad (the very successful dyslexic accountant) says: THE PURPOSE OF LIFE IS TO LOVE LIVING!
Ciao for now,

Re: Just thought I'd post tonight
That is wonderful. I too am quite impressed by what IM can accomplish in a relatively short length of time. My son, to our amazement, was singing himself to sleep one night this week. This is a child who never sang before IM.

Margo,
Great news! Thanks for the update. We start next week. My son even asked about it this morning he is very eager to do it.
He is in football and can’t do any of the exercises like jumping jacks or running sideways correctly. He wants so bad to get it right.

Waiting patiently (ha ha ) for results
As you all know my son has begun IM, even completing the Pre-training a few sessions early. So I know he is getting the beat. As for his behavior, that’s another story. He’s more impulsive and clueless than ever! I’m taking the positive view that this is just the step backward before the big leap forward.
That is fabulously good news!! Congratulations to you and your son!!
