I am looking for input on an LD parent coaching service I am thinking about starting. I grew up with dyslexia and after a rough ride through school figured out how to overcome my disability - I recently completed graduate school at MIT. I now want to help LD students realize their potential and am thinking about starting an organization that will provide parent and student coaching on the complex issues and decisions surrounding LD. I am trying to gauge interest in such an idea and would love your input on a couple questions:
1) Would you subscribe to a LD advisory service (see description below)?
2) Would you be willing to pay a small monthly fee for such a service, e.g. $30? If this is too much or too little, how much would access to the service be worth to you?
3) What sort of advice would you like the service to provide?
If you are interested in helping design the service, I would love to hear from you, my email is [email protected]
LD Coaching Description:
The advisory service would provide parents access to LD education planning tools and expert coaching on LD issues and decisions. The idea would be to focus on providing specialist guidance on areas such as interpreting diagnostic results, planing and managing your child’s remediation plan, managing the IEP process, school placement decisions, specialist referrals, and student advocacy. The service would be designed for parents, by parents - focusing on providing affordable access to specialists and information that enables more efficient and better decision making on critical LD issues.
About Me:
I am 30 years old and recently graduated from business school at MIT. I was diagnosed with dyslexia in 2nd grade. Following diagnosis I attended specialized LD schools in the Boston area, including the Dexter LAD program, the Carroll School, and the Landmark School. I reintegrated into mainstream school at 16 and graduated high school from Cushing Academy. College was a struggle, I had a .75 GPA (on a 4.0 scale!) my first semester. I eventually found a passion for business and graduated from Boston University after 6 years with a 3.7 GPA. I have always been entrepreneurial and following graduation moved to California where I was a software product manager and later a venture capitalist. After 4 year of work I recognized that my real calling was in LD education, and I went to business school with a mission to start a company after graduation that would rethink LD education and focus exclusively on helping LD parents and students.
Thanks for your input!
