LD in King County, WA

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Our family is considering relocating to King County, WA from northern Illinois. Our 11 year old son is bipolar/ADHD/OCD with severe learning disabilities. We need to know which school districts in the Federal Way/Kent/Renton and surrounding area might be equipped to meet his needs, or be willing (without al lot of balking) to place him in a private LD school. We know of at least one such private school in the Renton. We’ve had some bad experiences in the past, but Pete is now thriving in a terrific specialized LD school. The class sizes are small and the environment is highly structured, quiet and calm. Can anyone help?

I had seen a psychologist/speech pathologist who had highly recommended the New Horizon School in Renton.Unfortunately it would be a long trip for us,so we are dealing with the public school system. She did not like the Hamlin Robinson school which is in Seattle which is closer but still a trip for us although their brochures look nice.If I was paying money out for the school definately go in and check it out.Good Luck-
