In the March 2004 EHP journal, there was an
interesting article about lead exposure, chelation,
and blood and brain levels of lead. In it, they talk
about how after the use of succimer as a chelator
reduced blood levels of lead, it was not as effective
in the short run on brain loads. They make it clear
in the article that blood lead levels are not
correlated to brain levels after chelation. Also,
they theorize that the length of chelation therapy in
lead exposed children should be lengthened to increase
the removal of brain lead beyond what is found in the
blood stream.
