Does anyone know whether or not you have to disclose your childs medical treatment with the school? If I wanted to put my child on a trial medication, would I have to inform the school or would it be fair to see what changes the teachers saw without knowing?

First off, I’m not a lawyer, so this isn’t legal advice.<<>>>>

When my son was first diagnosed years ago, the doctor specifically had me NOT notify the teacher to see if she could tell any difference when my son was on meds. Several times since then, when we’ve changed meds, we haven’t told the teacher to see if they could tell any difference.

We weren’t trying to be deceitful, we just wanted to see if there was noticable change.

On the other hand, sometimes it helps to have to teacher look for differences, for example, when we’ve upped the dosage.

In our cases, the teacher has immediately picked up on the differences. (When we went from Ritalin to Adderal the teacher noticed right away and said to PLEASE change back to the Ritalin!)

I also do not have any claims to legal knowledge but we also did not always inform the school for mostly the same reasons.
Obviously, though, if your child needs meds during the day then you need to provide the paperwork and have the school nurse doing the dispensing.
Some families have switched to longer acting primarily to get the noon dose out of the way (and therefore the school out of the picture)

Best wishes
