My 7 yo daughter takes metadate CD. I am noticing that on days when she is sick and I don’t give it to her she seems happier. This is our third type of med in a one year time frame, so I’m not sure if this is the one for her. Do any other moms notice if their kids seem more/less negative when on/off meds? Thnks.
Re: meds and attitude
I would think that maybe that is her reaction and you have to weigh the pros and cons of what means more to you and to her. The dosage could be too high. Personally my son was off his last week becasue he had the flu and needed OTC meds that he can’t take with the Adderall and he drove me nuts as soon as his fever was done!!! He was jumping on the sofa, tackling the dog (who is only 5 pounds), and unable to watch TV without the constant urge to channel surf. This is an 11 year old child!! He was definitely not happier because he was in trouble more than not. This has been my experience with him over the last 4 years since he went on meds. I would talk to the doc and see if it is a “normal” reaction, and then go from there.
Some kids can become very quiet or seem depressed on stimulants. Often this is because the dose is too high, but sometimes its an indicator that the particular medication is wrong or that stimulants in general are not a good choice for that child. My own child got extremely quiet and tearful when his dose was too high but is fine and happy on the right dose. I hope this helps.
