How do you feel about a child being misdiagnosed for having a learning disability? It could be a child being diagnosed with the wrong LD or being diagnosed and not having LD at all. What would you as a parent do in this type of situation?

I think that parents need to take thoughtful looks at the concerns, the diagnosis, the treatment and decide what is best for their child. Ask for other opinions, read, research. When our child was given a diagnosis that we did not agree with, I called other professionals who knew him. In our long journey we have tried recommended treatments and rejected others, tried special programs and rejected others. We have kept at our heart a goal to have a physically and emotionally healthy child. We have trusted professionals who have earned our trust, closely monitored professionals we have some faith in and gotten the hell away from those we consider ignorant or short-sighted. Our son definitly has a learning disability, but what or why or what to do are not very clearly defined. We did not bury our heads in the sand and do nothing, but we also learned that we know our son better than anyone else. We have tried to be educated about his difficulties and his needs. We have always approached him as there to teach him the skills or how to cope without the skills. None of us are bad, or wrong, we just have to help each other.
