Misunderstood Minds on PBS

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Just saw in a local parenting publication that PBS is going to have a documantary on learning difficulties called Misunderstood Minds airing here on Wednesday March 27 at 9 pm (eastern time). Mel Levine’s, a renowed behavioral developmental pediatrician, work is highlighed in the PBS documentary.

Just as interesting, is that this program is a launching point for a much larger project that includes a 22 video library called Devleoping Minds produced by WGBH Boston and sponsored by the Charles Schwab Foundation. The video libarary addresses a wide range of challeneges experienced by children in learning, providing strategies to understand and manage learning difficulties. The video series covers attention, memory, language neuromotor fucntion, social cognition, temporal-sequential ordering, spatial ordering , and higher order cognition.

The hope of the project is to get the video library into schools and public libaries across the country where parents and teachers can take advantage of it. Additionally, there are teacher training workshops and program to attune entire schools to a “management by profile” system focused on helping every child overcome weaknesses and capitalize on strengths.

Wow!!! Remind me again that week, Beth! That sounds fantastic! I believe Mel Levine wrote a very useful book entitled Educational Care.
