MVP and ADD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

This was discussed before but I came across something that might be interesting and something others may want to investigate.

I looked at connective tissue disorders along with ADD. The reason is because MVP is often related to connective tissue problem, also this was of interest to me since my own husband has a very strong family history of Kerataconus (an eye disease also associated with connective tissue)
Well wouldn’t you know my search of PUBMED (medical database) showed an article from the journal of medical genetics, July 2001, entitled Chromosome 2 interstitial deletion associated with connective tissue laxity and attention deficit disorder.

I couldn’t pull up an abstract and don’t have access to the article. If someone does, perhaps they could share what it says. Also, just be aware that genetics is a very new field. I wouldn’t expect that most family MDs have heard of this, unless they have a specific interest in this area.

PS. Pubmed is the internet connection to medline the medical database on par with what eric is for education.

Fascinating! I feel swimmy headed from info overload lately, but that is definitely worth looking at closer. What are the symptoms of the eye disorder? Let us know if you get anything else. You are soooooo ahead of me on the learning curve and I am thankful to have you here. It brings me comfort and reassurance. You have my thanks and appreciation again.

The eye disorder is very specific. It runs in families. My son has not been diagnosed with it, yet. This particular disorder does not become apparent until later in life as it is a degenerative disease. My son sees an opthamologist every year because this is in our family.
I do wonder if his visual perception issues are not somehow related to my husbands eye problem. My husband also was labeled LD.

I know that medical science does not have all the answers. Please don’t make yourself crazy speculating about all the possibilities. There is just so much conflicting information out there.
I try really hard to stay in the practical realm. I look for specifics on what will truely help my son.
All the rest is just interesting speculation.
