How do you try to get people, (family members, friends, etc.) to understand the problems you have with a children that has a learning disability? The stress that I as a parent goes through? I am lost on this whole subject. I have no one to turn to and I need help not only in this topic but many others.
Re: Need Help
You might also go to Schwab Learning which also holds a parent to parent discussion group aiming to help parents with children with learning disabilities. The URL is as follows:

go to the menu item connect with others.

Need Help
Compasion goes a long ways. My sons 17 sever ADHD/Dyslexic; 14 HI numerous surgies to correct his hearing. It is interesting to watch people watch my children. One is very out going on the line of being abnoxious at times. The other laid back waits for others to intiate most conversation.
You can see the questions in their eyes. If they are interested in my sons or why I haven’t sleep in almost seventeen years they ask. IF they don’t then they are not intersted their loss.
My sons are a gift from God and I am to share them with the world. Sometimes the world has their own agenda, I learned long ago I don’t have to teach the world.
Some people are just not at the point of understanding, you can explain and explain, but until they are ready it makes no difference.
I hope this makes sense.
Try this link. I have never used this, but I usually hear about it. It’s called Parents helping parents and if you go to the parent support/network link there might be some information there. http://php.com/
Also, try http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-ppld?redirCnt=1
As much as I like this website (LD Online) there isn’t that much activity, so sometimes you can wait days for a response. Maybe it’s slower during the summers. Anyway, if you check out ivillage there is more activity and a community leader, so you can get a response pretty fast depending on your question. Still sometimes no one has the answers.
You might also check with your pediatrician to see if there is a parents group. Also, if your child is in school, you could try contacting the school psychologist for a referral to a support group of some kind.
Just a few ideas. I hope that helps.
