Need help RE: Slingerland Method

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone have any information on how I can get more info on the Slingerland Method? I’d like to know if there is anything we can do at home (ex: books, computer programs, etc) to help us out with this. I’m trying to work very hard with my son and he’s also going tutoring (with someone specialized in LD) and he’s in resource. We’re trying to get him caught up to grade level. He’s 2 years behind in math and he’s reading at a 2.9 grade level and he’s going into 5th grade (supposed to be going into 6th but we held him back in Kindergarten). We’re trying to keep him in school with his friends and that’s not as much of a problem as the cost of the private schools. They all run around $10,000 however, if he needs to go we’ll send him next school year. Thanks in advance if anyone can offer any help.

Is your tutor the one doing the Slingerland? The tutor should be assigning daily homework to practice the material taught in the sessions.

I’m actually waiting for his tutor to call me back to discuss this. I was just wondering if there were any computer programs or something along that line that I could use to help him at home.

Lexia Learning’s Strategies for Older STudents should work well with Slingerland. They have a “home” version that’s cheaper than the school version. (It’s still well into three digits, but it is very superior to most other “edutainment” stuff out there.) http://www.lexialearning.com/product_sos.htm will get you more info

(no, I don’t gain anything from plugging ‘em - I use it and like it.)
