WISC now offers a non-verbal (multiple choice) alternative for some of its subtests. If the child does much better on the non-verbal subtests, that’s a clue that the child’s “ability” score is being affected by his language difficulties.
Re: New non-verbal alternative sub-tests on WISC
Here’s the site where I read about the new sub-tests
http://www.psychcorp.com/sub/whatsnew/spring2001/spring4.html
I don’t know if all psychologists are aware of it. Based on my knowledge of psychologists, the better question is “Do they care?”
Good luck.
Hmmmm, this sounds like a big step for our kids with expressive language difficulties. Any idea if the non-verbal alternative is commonly used? Is this new enough that psychologist may not be familiar with the option? Is this altnative also available with the WAIS?
Thanks!
