New VT exercises

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

1. Cut up the letters that are about 30 font into strips of 4. Place one strip on each side of a doorway. Have the child wear his patch and read one letter from one side and then one letter from the other side. The letters should be placed so that they are even on both sides.
They go down the whole doorway doing this. They should not move their head.

2. We were given several sheets of paper with nonsense words. It is done so that the child has to go down the whole page first finding and A then a B then a C etc etc. He should find a Z at the bottom of the page. If he doesn’t he messed up somewhere along the way. We time this.

3. Using the ball and the string have the child hit the ball with a series of body parts. I say, “left arm, left foot, Head,” after I give him the sequence he hits the ball with these body parts in the order I said them. You can work up to a longer sequence and can use body parts like left ear, right ankle, left elbow, back etc…
I actually have to write down what I will say or I forget ;)

My son’s eye muscles are better. I stay with what is difficult and tracking smoothly is the hardest thing for him. He can now follow my finger for about 30 seconds.
I haven’t seen any of this transfer to academics yet. I will let everyone know if I see a difference.
