Orton-Gillingham Tutor Training

The Canadian Academy of Therapeutic Tutors (Orton-Gillingham) is proud to present two Orton-Gillingham Tutor Training courses this fall in Surrey and in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.

Purpose: To train individuals in the Orton - Gillingham Approach for the remediation of students with Specific Language Disability (Dyslexia). People with S.L.D. can succeed when those responsible for their success understand language - its processing, production and structure; understand the way people with dyslexia learn; understand the nature of Specific Language Disability and its ramifications.

Applicants: Teachers, tutors, parents, resource teachers, specialists, administrators, and those wanting to learn a multisensory approach to assist individuals who have language difficulties.

Format: Twelve sessions of intensive training in a multisensory phonetic approach to remediating reading, writing and spelling difficulties. The 90+ classroom hours will include lectures, demonstrations, practice of skills learned,lesson planning, making tutoring aids, and a supervised 8 hour practicum. Regular homework assignments will be given. Pre-course preparation is required.
