PACE

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My 9 year old son has short term memory loss as well as reading/writing difficulties. The PACE program was recommended for him. Does anyone have know of its effectiveness or success?

I had my son evaluated by a PACE provider. The evaluation was worthwhile especially since it was free. I think this is the type of program that can be effective if:
1. Your child is motivated and ready for it. I don’t really think it is for a very young child but it would depend on the child.

2. You have the time.

I have decided to take my son to a vision therapist first. He needs to have his binocular vision issues dealt with before we get into PACE. We go for evaluation tomorrow. I also think doing something like interactive metronome before PACE would be good if your child has motor planning issues.

I also am going to try audiblox first. Audiblox is much cheaper but similar. It is done by the parent.

I got parent trained last fall(2001) to provide PACE/MTC to my dd. It was half as much as the local provider charged.

It’s expensive never-the-less and very intensive. Easy to implement, but hard to motivate not only your child, but yourself. Even if you have a provider implement the program - you as parent still have ‘home-work’ 3x per week.

We did see improvement. I just pulled MTC book back out last night to do refreshers while dd is off-track the next couple weeks.
